Get Your Warm-Up In

One of the most important parts of any workout is making time for a warm-up period. Trying to exercise when your body is stiff is an excellent way to sustain an injury. By warming up, you both increase the blood flow to your muscles as well as their flexibility. A prepared body is less likely to end up in pain after being active, so we recommend doing the below before your at-home workout:

  • Static stretches.

  • Dynamic Stretches.

  • Going for a brisk walk or jog.

Strength Training

It’s easy to assume that without free weights or expensive gym equipment, performing strengthening exercises can be difficult. However, many people have been able to better their muscle tone for years without ever needing the gym. Bodyweight strengthening exercises are the perfect way to stay in shape and burn off any excess energy during the stay at home orders. Below are just a few examples of the exercises you can do to build up strength from the comfort of your own home:

  • Pushups.

  • Burpees.

  • Situps.

  • Lunges.

  • Wall-sits

  • Squats.

Cardio

Cardio training is another form of exercise you can perform without needing to go to the gym. It is perfectly feasible to perform this training while still adhering to life-saving social distancing guidelines. If you’d like to boost your endurance and increase your heart health, try incorporating the following into your daily habits:

  • Running.

  • Biking.

  • Hiking.

  • Swimming (during summer).

Stay Safe

At United Hands On Physical Therapy, we everyone to stay happy and healthy. When going outside for exercise, make sure you wear a mask to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
