Staying Active This Summer

It’s summer! Take advantage of the nice weather and get active with your friends and family. Here are some ways you can stay active and healthy this summer:

Exercise

Now that the summer is in its full swing, there’s plenty of free time that you and your children will have. It is important to keep them (and yourself) active during the summer months. Some places you can go are

  • The pool: swimming is a fantastic full body workout!

  • The park: whether you stay local or travel far away, going to a park is always fun! Try to have your children utilize the playground. A walk in the park or doing some yoga in the shade is also a great workout.

  • The gym: If it is an extremely hot day or there is a rainstorm, exercise at a gym! If your gym does not have great AC, try a workout at home and open a window.

Routine Changes

You may have a more open work schedule in the summer months. Here are a few ways you can change your routine to stay healthy this summer. They may seem daunting at first, but like everything in a routine, repetition will make it a positive habit:

  • Go for a walk after dinner: Try to get in a 30-minute walk-in every day after you finish your dinner.

  • Incorporate more fruits into your diet: Fruits are an important source of nutrients, including fiber, potassium, folate (folic acid), and vitamin C. Incorporating blueberries, cranberries, or strawberries can give you the health benefits you’re looking for.

  • Plant a garden: Planting a garden will bring you new dietary options, as well as physical exercise. Growing vegetable and fruits can be a healthy diet alternative as well as mentally beneficial.
