What To Expect Your First Few Visits to PT

Are you about to start physical therapy but do not know what to expect? It can be a little scary going into it, but our physical therapist in Ronkonkoma promises to make you feel at home and most importantly help you recover in the long-run. Our approach at United PT is “hands on therapy” and our educated and skilled physical therapist will be with you from day one until you are recovered. Your first few visits are the most important, as we will get to know you and figure out how we could best help you.

Your First Visit

  1. You will fill out patient registration forms. To assure a prompt start time, please arrive 10-15 minutes before your appointment time to fill out these forms. You can also print these forms out at home by clicking here and you can bring them with you. If not, no worries! Our friendly staff will provide you a copy of the forms.

  2. You will meet your therapist. When meeting your physical therapist, they will evaluate your injury and ask you detailed questions about your symptoms and about your medical history. You will create goals together that will help with your pain management, restore your movement, and recreate the function where your injury is.

  3. You will perform tests and exercises with your therapist. To help your physical therapist understand the extent of your injury, they may have you perform various tests and exercises. Due to this, make sure you wear comfy exercise clothing and sneakers!

  4. Schedule follow-up appointments. Our physical therapist in Ronkonkoma suggests that you book multiple follow-up appointments so that you are consistently seen in a timely matter which will help maximize your performance with us.

  5. Ask us questions! If you have any questions or concerns about your injury, early on is the best and most efficient time to ask.

Your Next Couple Visits

Your next couple of visits will also be getting to know you and your injury better. Your therapist will evaluate other parts of your body that may be contributing to the pain of your current injury. It may not make sense to you, but we assure you that our skilled therapists know exactly what they are doing!

Getting to know you injury better also means getting to see your reactions to each treatment and exercise that you are performing. Your therapist will adjust exercises and treatments as needed. Remember, everyone’s body is different and reacts differently to the same type of injury as someone else. Getting to know and understand what works for you will be within your first couple of visits, which will inch you closer to the goals you and your therapist created together.

Our “hands on therapy” at our physical therapist in Ronkonkoma promises to help you obtain your goals and recover as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you are nervous about your first few visits, don’t be. The sooner you come in the sooner your injury will be recovered.
